Sweet Remy Bean. So many words yet the sadness and just plain suck of the situation overwhelms me. Praying for continued strength for Jina and Garrett.

Remy was a fighter! She definitely took after her mother Jina and dad Garrett who were true strong fighters and I know your fight isn’t over yet. Just know your whole extended family is with you in thought and prayers every day. God is with Remy and you both today and always. Love from the Frakes Family❤️🙏

Remy fought so hard and was loved by so many in her short time on earth. Finding a cause, treatments and a cure for NEC would be a fitting legacy for this precious girl.

Beautiful Remy has touched many hearts, including mine. I'm so sorry you had such a short time with her due to this devastating infection. Sending you love and some funds in the hopes that effective treatments can be developed.

About Remembering Remy

Our little peanut, Remy Clare Maloney, was born 12 weeks too soon on 3 February, 2023. Despite a difficult pregnancy that led to doctors preparing us for a stillbirth, Remy decided she desperately wanted to join us earthside. Defying all odds, she made a dramatic entrance into the world weighting only 540 grams yet breathing and crying on her own.

We spent the next several weeks as a family adapting to the rollercoaster that is NICU life. Our days were filled with the highest of highs and the lowest of lows, but imagining the day we would walk out of the NICU with Remy in our arms kept us going. Remy battled several infections, but always came out on the other side stronger. She had a pair of lungs that impressed all of her doctors, and the longest tongue that she loved to lick her nurses with. She gave the cheekiest side eye, loved cuddles with us and had the feistiest personality. Remy's original due date was slowly approaching and we began to have hope we would bring her home soon. Unfortunately, in the very early morning of 9 April 2023, Remy had a sudden bowel perforation. She was rushed to bedside surgery where she had a Penrose drain placed. The next 48 hours were filled with touch and go moments but again, Remy proved her resilience and started to stabilize. We worked closely with her care team to plan an exploratory surgery for the following week. The morning of surgery, Remy's surgeon came back less than half an hour after she was taken to the OR and we immediately knew this meant bad news. She was diagnosed with NEC Totalis and our only option was to withdraw care - something no parent should be faced with. Doctors anticipated she would have several hours at most, but Remy incredibly gave us 28 beautiful hours together as a family before passing peacefully in our arms on 21 April 2023.

Remy spent 78 days fighting to come home with us. Although her fight is now over, ours as her parents will continue.
