Landon died at 18 days old. There needs to be more education around the signs and symptoms of NEC. We were continuously told that everything we were concerned with- his swollen belly, residuals, not tolerating feeds, were normal for premature babies. When really they were signs of NEC. He wasn't born with this. He was cleared as a feeder and grower trying to get big and strong to go home. The medical team was uneducated and rather then stopping feeds to let his swollen belly rest, they pushed more insisting he needed to gain weight. When we asked for blood work or test we were told that they just go testing looking for problems .. if they did.. would Landon be here? The what ifs are haunting and the grief changes with time. Tears, anger, and a hole in our hearts remain, not a day goes by where he isn't missed and on our minds.

About Landon Joshua Nelmes

Landon was born at 10:36 am January 15th, 2015. He was the oldest yet smaller twin making his debut at 30wks, weighing 3.1 lbs. He loved squeezing our fingers, trying to hold my heart necklace, being talked to, napping with mommy, skin to skin holds, listening to Celine Dion while in his isolate, his stuffed elephant lovie, meeting his grandma Michele and lots of family, riding with his brother in the same isolate headed from SF to SR while peeing all over Owen, he didn't like the cold scale, loved the bath untill it was over, he didn't mind his feeding tube, and got to hear alot of songs and stories before he past. He was strong and brought back his organs but ultimately the NEC and sepsis spread and we decide to release his pain. He was outside in his mommy's arm surrounded by those who loved him when he passed on February 2nd, 2015 at 1:58pm. The worse day of our lives.

Love,
A mom missing her baby everyday. His twin brother Owen, his brother Sawyer- who is really sad he never got to meet him, his sister Heartley, who says he is the tallest (since in heaven) and probably the nicest brother ever, and his dad who misses his son.We spread NEC awareness, donate, and speak his name to educate families, to encourage them to advocate for their baby, and perhaps save them from this forever pain. We chose $800.00 because he would have been 8 this year. Not a day goes by that we don't think about Landon and what might have been. We love you baby boy! Until we see you again.
