About

Hi, everyone! I'm running the California International Marathon in Sacramento on December 3rd to raise money for the NEC Society, which is a nonprofit organization organization that was launched in January 2014 by Jennifer Canvasser. She lost her son to complications from NEC (necrotizing enterocolitis) before he was able to reach his first birthday.

NEC (necrotizing enterocolitis) is a leading cause of infant death, impacting thousands of babies every year. It is a devastating intestinal disease that primarily affects babies born prematurely or with a medical complication. Today, patient-families and experts from around the world work together to improve outcomes for the most vulnerable infants at risk of NEC.

The NEC Society intentionally elevates the voices of women, individuals from diverse backgrounds, the LGBTQ+ community, people with disabilities, and marginalized groups, as they bring critical insight and advance the NEC Society’s vision of a world without NEC.

As many of you know, I survived a hit-and-run bike accident in Miami in October of 2013, the same year I qualified for the Boston Marathon. I broke T3 and T4 in my spine and was told by my doctor that I survived because I was in 'marathon shape'. Running the CIM is an opportunity for me to 'pay it forward', to help support the NEC Society and to try once again to qualify for Boston! Please consider donating, and thank you in advance for your generosity!
